We Teach English or People Die
From Cruise Ships to Cruise Missiles
A journey from the open ocean to the classroom. The experiences that shaped my life, teaching, and understanding of the human condition.

Hawaii was the experience that answered all my questions about time—it didn't exist. Everything is NOW on a ship, and the only easy day is YESterday. On the Pacific Ocean, I may not have been Mr. Right, but I felt ok being Mr. Right Now.
When we would dock off Kona or in Kauai, I was in the MOment. It was only on the "Mainland" where my Aloha Vibe got distracted with caffeine and the malls, and I was on default... just another Haole.
Moonwalking With The Kahunas
Aloha Time is Divine Time. It’s an energetic force that has your best interest at heart, and you can tap into it anytime you want... things show up when you want them. It's more than liquid; it's a fluid life. First thing I did was start teaching.

What you focus on gets BIGGER, and Analysis is Paralysis. There is always mental time-travel—one of the greatest gifts of the mind. It makes us human, and it makes us special. It is the clash between the "experiencing self" and the "remembering self". Just saying the word "Hawaii" is like talking about my youth.
I used to call it nostalgia. Now I call it the “reminiscence bump” — remembering things more vividly. Identity is the internalized life story we tell ourselves. We favor stories that reinforce who we think we are at any age. It's kinda weird that I am still becoming the person I am going to be.
The 7 Principles of Huna Wisdom
Energy flows where attention goes...
- IKE => Be Aware (The world is what you think it is)
- KALA => Be Limitless (Everything is possible)
- MAKIA => Be Focused (Energy flows where attention goes)
- MANAWA => Be Here (Now is the moment of power)
- ALOHA => Be Happy (To love is to be happy with)
- MANA => Be Confident (All power comes from within)
- PONO => Be In Tune (Effectiveness is the measure of truth)
I find it so much easier to think in Hawaiian since I only know like four words: Aloha (Hello/Goodbye), Mahalo (Thank You), E komo mai (Welcome), and Ono (Delicious).
Neurons that wire together fire together. The more I do something, the more likely I am to do it in the future. Teaching, traveling, and adapting shaped my reality.
